In 2001, 40 years old, I had a gastric Bypass at the weight of 292, I was miserable and had co-morbidities that were impacting my life. Everything went well for about 2 years, I lost over 100 lbs then I had complications with the bypass (stapleline disruption) I spent the next three years fighting the insurance company to have the surgeon fix it. And gained about 60+ lbs back due to no restriction and other issues.
My appeals were denied and I had to start thinking of other options, no US surgeons would touch me without insurance. So I did a lot of investigation and found Dr Ortiz at OCC, I told him of my predicament and he agreed to do the surgery. This was a tough surgery and took several hours but Dr. Ortiz did a great job and followed up with me several times. I came back to get fills for several years.
That was in 2006, I am so grateful. My weight while always something that I have to be cognizant of has stayed down. I am now 59 years old and in great shape.
